High crime

Pisa, Italy.

When gypsies attempted to steal from us here, our 5th grade drama queen instincts came out in full force. Lou almost karate chopped the women and I gave them a threatening elbow to the gut. She offered a “STOP IT” as if a boy had just tried to put his hand on her leg in gym class.

It was all out of love, of course.

And needless to say, we didn’t love Pisa.

Goodbye for now. Don’t try to steal from me. Who knows what move I’ll pull next time. A good ‘ole deadleg maybe?

Venice, Italy.

Hanging laundry reminds me of two things. 1.) My life in Sarajevo. The first time I ever hung laundry outside my balcony, I hung nearly every piece I owned. At the time, it wasn’t much. Janet still gives me a hard time for my “wardrobe” there, consisting of brown parachute pants and a (then) new Marmot fleece from my brother. He knew I’d go without if it weren’t for his generosity. I probably owe some part of my existence to that fleece. It became somewhat of a security blanket through the depressing country that is Bosnia. I felt hugged when it was zipped up tightly.

Ziiiiiiiiiiippppppppp. And hug procured for the weakling.

My friend said something this morning on our walk around the park that reminded me of said security blanket. I just look better in spandex with a puffy vest. Puffy vests are like hugs too. They really should cost more for the reassurance they provide.

So I hung all of my 5 pieces of laundry at once and had no idea you’re to turn clothes inside out when hanging them in direct sunlight. Who knows to do this? All of my clothes faded, but only in part. That part was mostly an awkward line across the boobs, though I think it helped me make friends in Sarajevo because I was that girl. Hard to forget on more levels than one.

2.) Italy. On our recent trip, it danced outside buildings at every corner. Any time we stopped, I’d watch the sheets shake, slacks sway and strut, sleeves shimmy and swing. ‘Twas a refreshing reminder of all the active (unknown) bodies and hearts beating behind the brick buildings. There’s an odd sense of being brought into someone’s life when you can see their granny panties and tired bedsheets.

Goodbye for now. I love you.
